Dizin Overview

Dizin has a reputation for excellent snow, due to the altitude (it's one of the world's highest ski areas) and North facing slopes. Snow depths average 1.5 metres (5 feet) at the base and double that on the upper slopes. Queues are rare, except at weekends when Iran's growing 'nouveau riche' middle class hit the slopes. Lift pass prices are extremely good value (a few pounds sterling or US dollars equivalent). It's easy to hire boots and skis and even clothing in the village.

The only occasional issues are touts pushing private instructors - although this is some of the world's cheapest ski guiding.

There are several small hotels and a few dozen chalets/condos as well as restaurants in the village. FIS competitions are staged here.

The road to Dizin is good but four wheel drive and/or chains are required for the last 10 or 12 km ( 6 or 7 miles) when there's snow - which is frequently the case.

Skiing

The ski area's base height is variously reported as being 2600 or 2700 metres, the top 3500 or 3550 metres. The skiing itself is mainly short runs of easy to intermediate standard, mostly unprepared by machines and all well above the treeline. There is something for everyone however, from long, rolling, cruising runs to wide bowls or narrow chutes. Uplift is via two rather dated four man gondolas from the village centre at 2600 or 2700 m (depending on which measurement you believe) to a height of 3500 m. There are drag lifts and a chair lift at locations around or a short ski form the gondola stations.

Dizin winter and summer international ski resort is located just 60 Km North West of Tehran, and offers a variety of mountain sports activities.

Dizin offers good sking, particularly, for Expert and Intermediate skiers.

History and Development

Iran has interesting and varied Skiing. The first ski resort was established on 1940 in Ab-e-Ali. Now there are 16 ski resorts in Iran of which Dizin is the most famous.

The resort was established in 1969 and contains some rather ugly grey concrete blocks reminiscent of some of the French purpose-built centres of the same era.
