Up to 70cm Of Fresh Snow so Far This Weekend in the Alps

Published : 10-Dec-2017 08:45

Resorts across the Alps have reported up to 50cm of snowfall so far this weekend.

Powder alarms for 20cm+ of fresh snow in 24 hours were posted by more than 100 leading ski areas yesterday in the big four Alpine nations along with countries and principalities like Liechtenstein and Germany.

Video posted online has shown scenes of powder skiing in the 3 Valleys, which opened his weekend, as well as many other areas including the Portes du Soleil and at Tignes Val d'Isere.

Similar snowfalls were also posted in the Pyrenees, Scandinavia and Scotland.

Villars in Switzerland (pictured above) posted 30cm of snowfall up to yesterday and a further 20cm today. However Adelboden has posted 35cm for Saturday and another 35cm for the 24 hours to Sunday morning.

The latest snowfalls come on top of largely cold weather and regular snowfalls through November leading to increasingly realised hopes that this is becoming one of the best starts to the season for snow conditions for at least four seasons, potentially longer.

Most tour operators begin their holiday packages next Saturday.
