One Of The Worlds Last Single Chairlifts To Go

Niseko Village, a key resort base within the wider Niseko United ski area has announced that a new gondola system will begin operations this winter. The centre also says that a single chairlift will be upgraded to a double chair.

Niseko plans to unveil the first stage of the new gondola this winter, with a second stage of the lift set to follow a year later for winter 27-28. The resort will also replace one of the world's few remaining old single chairlifts with a double chair as part of the upgrades.

La Plagne Plans €100m+ Gondola Link From Rail Station To Slopes

With access to ski areas by rail gradually improving, one of the world's most visited resorts, La Plagne, has unveiled a €106 million plan to connect one of its nearest rail stations directly by a gondola from the train station to the ski slopes. The proposed lift would start beside Aime railway station at 700m and climb 1270 vertical metres over its six-kilometre length to reach Plagne Centre at 1,970m.

Summer Skiing Resumes in the Alps

Outdoor skiing in the northern hemisphere has resumed after an unprecedented three-week closure, as Italy's Passo Stelvio glacier reopened limited terrain to skiers this weekend after a drop in temperatures finally allowed the remaining snow surface to return to a skiable state.

Portillo, Chile, has had over 30 feet of snow this winter...

The Andes, led by Chile, currently have the world's deepest snow packs - exceeding 4 metres/13 feet. Despite storm disruption in New Zealand, Cardrona has extended opening to 18th October.
