Swedish Ski Centre To Get 10m Extra Vertical Thanks To Corporate Rock Donation

A small Swedish ski centre is to get 10m of extra height thanks to the donation of 100,000 tonnes of rock by a Swedish division of Amazon.
Amazon Web Services are building a new HQ in Stockholm, 120km East of the little Vilsta ski hill in Eskilstuna.
The ski club there wanted to make their slope bigger by adding to the top of the hill and Amazon had 100,000 tonnes of excavated rock from their construction in the Swedish capital so the two projects came together.
The rock will mean the main ski slope can be made about 30 metres longer, whilst a new slalom slope and a beginner run will also be created. Altogether the new area will be about the size of a football pitch.
The local authority gave the ski club permission to go ahead so long as the rock used passed purity tests, which it has done.
Infact around 130,000-150,000 tonnes in total are needed flor the full project so a little more still has to be found, but the ski club says Amazon's rock donation has saved them five years of work and a lot of expense and they hope to open the new terrain next winter 18-19.
