Mount Ruapehu

Whakapapa and Turoa ski areas came under joint management in 2000 and now operatre as Ruapehu ski area, the largest ski centre in New Zealand and one of the three largest in the Southern Hemisphere. The reasort claims the title of the largest vertical drop of any centre in Australasia.

How to get there

 By Air

The nearest airport to Mount Ruapehu is Wanganui, 112 minutes drive away.

Taupo and Palmerston North airports are all within three hours drive.

Usual opening is Late June, and usual closing is Early Nov.

NOTE:- Ski area, lift and piste opening is subject to Current Snow Conditions.

We don't yet have specific details of the COVID-19 precautions being taken in Mount Ruapehu, but they are likely to include most of the following :-

  • Face masks required on lifts, and in shops.
  • Social distancing in public areas.
  • Reduced lift capacity.
  • Extensive disinfection / sanitization.
