Rainbow

Rainbow is the most northerly ski area on the South Isle, and opened its first lift in 1982. The resort offers good views, a good sunshine record and excellent skiing and 'boarding for all ability levels.

How to get there

 By Air

The nearest airport to Rainbow is Taupo, 4 minutes drive away.

Rotorua, Napier, Hamilton, Whakatane, Tauranga, Wanganui and Palmerston North airports are all within three hours drive.

Taupo is just one hours drive away, in good driving conditions, so you can be on the piste quickly.

Infrastructure

Ski Lift Capacity

The six ski lifts are able to uplift 3,000 skiers and snowboarders every hour.

Snow Making

Snow-making is available, with 12 snow cannons.

Season Dates

When is Rainbow open?

We don't currently have confirmed season dates, but hope to soon.

Usual opening is Early July (Opening day is pre-opening day for members - public opening is the next day), and usual closing is Mid September.

NOTE:- Ski area, lift and piste opening is subject to Current Snow Conditions.

COVID-19 / Coronavirus

We don't yet have specific details of the COVID-19 precautions being taken in Rainbow, but they are likely to include most of the following :-

  • Face masks required on lifts, and in shops.
  • Social distancing in public areas.
  • Reduced lift capacity.
  • Extensive disinfection / sanitization.
