Serre Chevalier, the resort that promotes itself as the largest in the southern Alps, has an unusual new attraction for visitors this winter, a cryotherapy centre in Briançon.

"Cryotherapy, long used by top athletes, is well known for its effectiveness in the fields of sports, health and well-being and is increasingly recognised by the medical profession. It is great for athletes for optimal recovery and increased physical performance. It is well known for its ability to reduce symptoms in joint and neurological diseases such as polyarthritis, multiple sclerosis and osteoarthritis. It is also useful in helping post-surgical and post-traumatic recovery. It can also help skin diseases, sleep problems, depression, and vascular problems," a resort spokeperson said.

The new Go Cryo centre in Serre Chevalier Briançon has been created by Leo Meyer, an Osteopath with 20 years' experience and is open to the general public and well as to sportsmen and women who should all benefit from the innovative treatment.

Following extensive research, GoCryo have installed an electric chamber, which as opposed to liquid nitrogen Cryo Saunas, enables whole body immersion. The temperature is between -80 ° C and -100 ° C and a session lasts around three minutes.

In more conventional news from Serre Chevalier's slopes a new 6-person high-speed chairlift will be replacing the Cote Chevalier lift making the ride from Villeneuve to Chantemerle much easier and faster (3000 people/h instead of 1800).

The bottom station of the new Cote Chevalier chairlift will be located below the Frejus chairlift whilst the top will be in the same location as before. 10 million euros has been invested in this new lift which also has fewer support pylons than its predecessor.

The resort is also unveiling a new four star hotel, Stabatio, in Monêtier les Bains. It will feature 21 spacious rooms, each with a south facing terrace and balcony and decorated, "in the spirit of a charming mountain lodge." Facilities will include a well-being area and a restaurant with terrace providing 180° views of the slopes.
