Planned Preston Dry Ski Slope secures funding

Plans for a new dry ski slope in Preston are moving closer as developers have confirmed they have secured funding for the project.
The ski slope would be part of the proposed Phoenix Park leisure complex on the banks of the River Ribble, on the site of the existing Trax Off Road Motorsport centre.
Planning permission for the project was granted by Preston City Council as long ago as 2023, but finance proved to be difficult.
According to documents submitted as part of the planning process, the required investment has now been obtained, allowing the project to move towards construction once the remaining planning conditions have been satisfied.
The proposed dry ski slope will be around 95m long, on an 11-degree gradient. The slope would incorporate solar panels, providing renewable energy to help power thelift.
Plans also include a lake for water skiing, windsurfing, canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding, together with mountain bike trails.
Construction of lakeside lodges have also been proposed to provide supported accommodation for young people leaving the care system as they transition to independent living.
If completed, the facility would become one of the few new dry ski slopes to open in England in recent years, although a construction start date has yet to be announced.
