Fresh February Snow In The Alps
Fresh February Snow In The Alps
Published : 01-Feb-2017 08:28
After a fairly dry and often very cold 2-3 weeks in the Alps the snow is falling again and is expected to continue doing so for at least the coming week.
The first snowflakes were recorded on Monday evening and most areas have seen light snows through Tuesday, and in many it continues to fall.
In fact current forecasts show areas right across the Alps, as well as the Dolomites and Pyrenees, receiving 50-10cm of snow daily from now right through the weekend and in to next week.
Some areas are receiving more significant snowfalls. Several resorts in Austria and Switzerland including Davos, Solden, Pitztal, St Moritz, Zell am See and Arosa are amongst those which have reported 20-30cm of fresh snow in the last 24 hours.
The snow, if it arrives as forecast, will be particularly good news in areas that have had little or none so far this winter including much of the Dolomites and the South Eastern Alps including St Moritz, which hosts the World Alpine skiing championships from next week, although it maty not want too much fresh snow on its race courses.
