Briefly Cheaper to Buy Ski Gear In Britain

Published : 26-Nov-2016 03:50

The main trade body for the ski retail trade in Britain has issued a statement highlighting the fact that it's currently cheaper to buy ski gear in Britain compared to abroad, but they warn it is unlikely to last.

And prices are cheaper in the UK than abroad not because prices have dropped in Blighty, but because they've gone up abroad as the pound has dropped in value since the vote for Brexit.

More Huge Snowfalls in the Alps, Scottish Season Re-Starts

Published : 25-Nov-2016 04:39

There have been more big snowfalls in the Alps meaning November 2016 looks set to be one of the snowiest on record, with some areas getting more than 2m of snow on higher slopes through the month.

Although not many resorts are actually measuring how much snow is falling yet as they are not operating mid-week, if open at all, Val Thorens reported 40cm in 24 hours up to this morning, and said that the snow continues to dump down. It officially opens this weekend and its very different opening to the past few.

American Resorts Open For Thanksgiving

Published : 23-Nov-2016 10:37

After a testing month for ski areas that aim to open in late October or early November, US resorts are opening en-masse after heavy snowfall and low temperatures arrived across the country just in time for the major Thanksgiving Holiday period.

Whilst the alps have seen big November snowfalls, America has had hot air over much of the country through most of Autumn, more like Europe's experience in 2014 and 2015 which had caused resorts to delay opening and the FIS to cancel World Cup races planned this coming weekend and next in Canada and the US.

World Cup Races Switched to Alps With Mixed Weather Out West

Published : 21-Nov-2016 12:23

Early season snow conditions in North America are some of the most mixed up and confused they've ever been in autumn.

On the one hand some ski areas have been reporting very high October and/or November snowfall, but on the other resorts have been delaying opening due to lack of adequate cover and planned World Cup races in both Canada and the US have been cancelled. What does "no recent snow report" mean...

Published : 17-Nov-2016 09:50

This is a common question, particularly at this time of year (see below).

Your report says 'no recent snow report in X'. Does this mean that the predicted snow never arrives? I'm confused!

It simply means that we don't have a current report, from someone actually in X. During the season, the vast majority of ski areas report their snow depths and conditions on a daily basis - those are our "Snow Reports".
