Abtenau

Although the local ski area (on the Karkogel) is small, it does offer a couple of black runs and off-piste possibilities. More extensive skiing is available at the nearby Dachstein West.

The ski area of Abtenau is in the Austrian Alps at an altitude of 1,480m, with 80km of marked runs.

Abtenau is part of the Dachstein West ski area with access to 299km of downhill skiing, with 97 marked pistes, served by a total of 81 ski lifts. In addition to the skiing in Abtenau itself (80km of pisted ski runs), the appropriate ski Lift Pass will allow you to ski or snowboard in the other Dachstein West ski resorts of Annaberg im Lammertal, Gosau, Katrin - Bad Ischl, Krippenstein, Obertraun/Dachstein and Rußbach.

The skiing is at relatively low altitude, so snow cover can be variable.

How to get there

 By Air

The nearest airport to Abtenau is Salzburg, 45 minutes drive away.

Munich, Linz, Klagenfurt, Ljubljana, Innsbruck Airport and Graz airports are all within three hours drive.

Salzburg is just one hours drive away, in good driving conditions, so you can be on the piste quickly.
